When a Ryerson University electrical engineering professor announced last month that one of his papers had been plagiarized in its entirety by academics at Islamic Azad University in Iran, it seemed like an isolated and extreme scandal, unearthed accidentally by an alert research assistant.

But the National Post has learned that, in the past year, at least seven other Iranian researchers have published extensively plagiarized research in three peer-reviewed journal articles. All of them, though not the Ryerson case, were published by the Canadian Centre of Science and Education, an academic publisher that runs 61 journals out of an office in northwest Toronto.
