Cross-curricular Approaches to Language Education

Call for Papers

The 15th International Conference on Applied Linguistics, organised by the Greek Applied Linguistics Association (GALA), will  be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 22-25 November 2012. The overarching theme for this conference is Cross-curricular Approaches to Language Education, and the organisers are inviting papers on the following topics:

  • Content-based Education
  • Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
  • Immersion Education
  • Language Across the Curriculum
  • Interdisciplinary Approaches to Language Education

Papers will be presented in 20-minute slots (followed by 10-minutes discussion) in Greek, English or French, and selected papers will be included in the Conference Proceedings. Interested participants should submit one anonymous and one signed abstract (500 words max.) in .pdf and MS-Word format to gala-auth[at]enl.auth.gr.

  • Submission deadline: 10 June 2012
  • Notification of acceptance: 10 July 2012
  • Early registration deadline: 15 September 2012
  • Conference dates: 23-25 November 2012

Participation fee

Figures in brackets refer to early registration fees (before 15 September)

  • Standard fee (for non-GALA members): 70€ (60€)
  • Group fee (3+ participants from with the same affiliation): 60€ (50€)
  • GALA members fee: 50€ (40€)
  • Student fee: 20€ (20€)

Conference Proceedings

Update (January 2014): The conference proceedings, edited by Angeliki Psaltou-Joycey, Eleni Agathopoulou and Marina Mattheoudakis, have been published by Cambridge Scholars Press.

The book, which contains 23 chapters, is divided into four sections:

  • Cross-Curricular Approaches
  • Intercultural Approaches to Teaching Immigrant and L2 Learners
  • CLIL at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Levels
  • ICT Applications in Cross-Curricular Language Education
