Researching Language and Linguistics: Bridging Gaps [Call for papers]

The University of Birmingham English Language Postgraduate Conference (BELP) will be held on 7th March 2014 at the Orchard Learning Resource Centre (OLRC), Selly Oak Campus, University of Birmingham. This year’s conference theme is “Researching Language and Linguistics: Bridging Gaps.” Plenary addresses will be delivered by Professors Svenja Adolphs (University of Nottingham) and Susan Hunston (University of Birmingham).

Postgraduate students working on any area of linguistics are invited to to submit abstracts (300-words maximum) for oral presentations or workshops. The conference organisers are particularly keen on submissions in topics that connect two (or more) branches of linguistic research, such as discourse analysis, pragmatics, corpus linguistics and multi-modality or any other areas in language research. Oral presentations will be allocated 20 minutes for presentation followed by 5 minutes of discussion, and workshops will be allocated 15 minutes of presentation followed by up to 35 minutes for practical activities or discussion.

Abstracts are to be submitted to belpconference14[at]gmail[dot]com by 2nd February 2014. The following information must be included in the submission: Name, Institution, Type of Researcher (e.g., PhD, MPhil, MRes etc.), Home Discipline(s) (e.g., Linguistics, Sociology, History, Education, MFL) and an email address. Notification of acceptance will be given by 21st February.
