Meeting on English Language Teaching (MELT)

The Meeting on English Language Teaching (MELT) is an annual event that focuses on language teaching in tertiary education. This year’s event, which will be hosted by the École de Langues at the Université du Québec à Montréal, will focus on second language assessment.
Submissions are invited for oral presentations (30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion) in English or French, which discuss second language assessment topics, such as proficiency/placement testing and classroom assessment. Proposals focusing on adult second language learning are especially encouraged. Papers on language assessment in languages other than English are also welcome. A non-exhaustive list of topics of interest includes:
- Language proficiency assessment
- Issues in measurement and evaluation
- Optimal testing environments/platforms
- Interpreting test results
- Validating language tests
- Measures for classroom assessment
- Related applied linguistic research
Abstracts should be written in font size 12, and not exceed two pages in length (including bibliography), with one inch margins. A signed and an anonymous copy of each abstract should be submitted in .pdf format to meltuqam.ca, and the word ‘abstract’ should appear in the subject heading of the email). The deadline for abstract submission is 28 February 2013.
